Shabbat Meal for the needy
The first meal honoring the Sabbath—or the seventh day—a day of rest from work in the Jewish tradition, begins on Friday evening, after sundown. The Sabbath, or Shabbat, meal is the festive family meal celebrating the commandment in Hebrew scriptures to esteem that day as holy.
Twice a month, BOCA volunteers, in cooperation with other ministries including House Generations Renewal Congregation, prepares and distributes a hot meal to homeless people on Friday evening while other Israelis are enjoying a Shabbat meal in their homes.
